Not So Wordless Wednesday: Boys will be Boys!

I know this is supposed to be wordless, but had to let ya know that this critter greeted us on our grill yesterday. (Yes, the same grill that cooked our watermelon- in case you were wondering.)

Photobucket

Little Man was thrilled and rushed into the house to find a container. Of course the first thing he found was one of my nice rubbermaids. GRR.

Photobucket

Hubs convinced him he probably shouldn't hold it. (2 points to hubs.) So he just studied it intently through the glass. His stacks of books and encyclopedias don't seem to satisify his insatiable appetite for knowledge when it comes to living creatures.

Photobucket

Pokey wanted nothing to do with this guy. She stood inside out of harms way and held up a sign that read "turantula" while Little Man tried to taunt her.

Photobucket

I understand that we live in the woods and that critters are part of the package, but must they be so close to my home?

I could write a book on the disturbing experiences I had as a child with wolf spiders that scarred me for life, but I'll spare you the details and just suffice it to say that I HATE them- ALL OF THEM!

And yes, the exterminator is scheduled. Phil is a busy guy and couldn't fit us in for a while. Seems to be many critters on the loose. I'm trying to be patient... And you may not see us outside until next Tuesday at noon. Just sayin.

Yet another critter to add to Little Man's ever growing collection...

Photobucket

But then again, BOYS WILL BE BOYS. **SIGH** Only another 8 years to go... heaven help me.

(Oh, and I stocked up on bug containers today. After hunting the world over they were found at the dollar store. Score.)

Let's get this party started. Shall we? Add your link below and then head over to...

See my other Wordless Wednesdays here. Can't wait to see what you come up with this week.

  2. That's one nasty tarantula!

I'm so glad my boy has not fully discovered bugs and critters yet. He is fascinated by them, but he doesn't want to touch. Yay.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Okay, that first picture...you really need to give a warning! :) That is just nasty!!
I can handle most of the stuff in your pics...just not spiders or snakes. ICK!

  7. We have lots of boys in our families who would love seeing a spider that huge! We also have lots of girls who would be screaming in terror too!

    Thanks for having us today.

Bets wishes for a great week,

  9. I feel your pain. My son takes delight in picking up those creepy things and showing them to me. I had to tell him once that girls do not like spiders!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Ewww why the spiders? And why are they so big, it makes my stomach hurt to look at your pictures lol. I was just like him as a kid... Actually I still am just like him.. I'll pick up any living thing except for scorpions, spiders, roaches... You know. The really disgusting stuff.

    ReplyDelete

  18. Wow! That is quite a collection he has there! My 5 year old son seems completely enthralled with creepy crawlies lately. He brings them in the house to "play" with them...in his cars, on his books...I draw the line at sitting next to him at the dinner table. Boys indeed!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I've gotta tell you, out of all of your WW posts this is by far my favorite! Love the photos. Love that your son has an insatiable appetite for knowledge when it comes to living creatures. My son is the same way. He's forever spewing random facts about animals. lol
Thanks for stopping by and linking up Lish. It's been another busy, migraine-filled day here. Hope to be back in the saddle tomorrow. :) Have a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ewww... that made my skin crawl! *shudder* Your little boy really loves his bugs. lol I have 3 girls and none of them are really into bugs. ;p Happy WW

  27. Not good to look at right before bed time. Yikes!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ugh! That would give me nightmares. My son isn't old enough for that ...yet.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ahhhhhhhhhhh!! I am so with your daughter! I would be inside, away from the spider! I detest bugs, if they cross my path they will get squished. LOL! That's an awesome collage of all the creepy crawling things your son has found.

    Happy WW!

  30. I don't like that thing :( I would probably try to move LOL if I found that anywhere near my house ;) We live pretty much in the woods too, but thankfully still didn't see any of those guys LOL Awesome pictures, and adorable kiddos!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think if I saw that I'd never go outside again! Your lad looks like he's enjoying it though :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. OMG,great shots but hope i won't have nightmares tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have to say, my human was the same way with creatures as your son. And since she was a girl, she was considered kind of strange. Funny, I am a girl too, but since I'm a cat, my fascination for odd creatures is taken in stride.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Fantastic shots as always, Lish! But the first picture makes my skin crawls LOL. I haven't set up my entry. Off to dig for some pictures now :D

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hey Alicia, wow, me and Josh are super impressed with little man's critter collection! I love that montage you put together - thanks for the heads-up on the wordless wednesday linky... I've linked up now :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow, what a big spider. Your little man really loves all those spiders and bugs, ect. Life get´s never boring with kids. ;o)
The collage you made is great!
I´m visting for the first time.
    Have a happy day!

  38. Creepy and yucky, but very cool! I love when kids love to capture and examine creepy crawlers up close. Great photos!

    ReplyDelete
  39. As a boy I think they are cool to look at. As a man I know you have to respect all creatures of life. Spiders especially make me nervous. My granddaughter was just bitten by something. The Dr. thinks it was a spider.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Love the photo collage...my 7 yr old never brings gifts home from the woods. Maybe because I have him helping with chores in the Alpaca and Chicken barns.

    ReplyDelete
  41. beautiful montage but EEEKKK!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. oh boy...great photos but I'm not a fan of these creatures...

  43. We live in the woods near the lake which means we get a bunch of yucks up at our place too. The Dudes are all over it, but I have a clinical strength fear of bugs. All bugs. So for me it's like a daily anxiety attack. Only thing in your photo collage I was remotely okay was the turtle. We have 2 turtles so I'm good with those!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ewwwww!!!!!
Great pictures though! I would of had a hard time with that and I'm really not scared of spiders! But we don't have MONSTERS like that up here!!! Have a great wednesday Alicia!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Alicia, I just noticed that I had sent you the wrong link. It´s the one from about two weeks ago. Sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  46. That gave me the creep! :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh, please, don't tell me I have this to look forward to. Right now, we are still on lady bugs and beetles.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Spidey! Honestly this is the situation where my hubs would try to convince me that spiders are "good" because they "kill other bad things" -- but he seems to be MIA when I actually need to deal with one!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. OMG, I felt like I had to use the bathroom after that post! Very queasy!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I only have one thing to say to that....ew,ew,ew,ew,ew,ew,ew....oh yeah, ew. I get the creeps just looking at the photos. Maybe it is better I ended up with 5 girls and no boys?!?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oh, yes! Such a familiar scene. Love the collage of critter captures!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ok that is one big creepy crawler.

    ReplyDelete
  53. OH my goodness! That thing is icky. But fantastic collage of the entomologist!

    ReplyDelete
  54. that is just gross but boys will DEFINITELY be boys for sure! i love all those pics with your bug boy...it definitely looks like he loves the outdoors!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Please...please tell me you don't live in NY state! I don't want to share a state with a spider that big! Oh my goodness, I have trouble with little house spiders!

    (I know, I'm a wuss.....it's an irrational fear.......)

    ReplyDelete
  56. My boy just killed his very first spider last night and he's scared to death of them. Don't know what possessed him to conquer this fear, but he did it. Pretty proud of him because now I can quit killing them for him! ; )

We have two toads that live under our hose box. I'm fine with them there, but don't like it when they hop around the yard as I'm trying to mow! ICK!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oh my goodness! What a huge spider. We grow them big here in Florida too!

  59. Oh my goodness.... right now I am kinda glad I have 3 girls... at the moment all I have to deal with are the endless mud pies and other potions they decide to conjure up ;)

    Happy WW.

    ReplyDelete
  60. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! that is all.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Aw, yuk! My future times 2 (possibly more)! I live in the sticks too, but I sure am glad that I don't have more run ins with creatures of this size!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I have nothing , but boys in my house so creepy crawlers and gross things are on a daily schedule, lol.

I LOVE your collage. It's awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Creepy crawlies are kind of gross but those are some pretty spectacular pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Um....the day I have 68 comments on a post is the day I pass out from shock! Holy man girl!! Also, I must say that spider is the most horrible thing I've ever seen!! AHHH!! I was not prepared for a buggy filled post:)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Love your fabulous photo collage ... nicely done!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Um, that thing is HUGE! I would be freaking out! And wow, your little dude sure does love creatures. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Okay, yuck. Where I live... most bugs who appear to only walk actually have wings and can also jump!

    ReplyDelete
  68. OMG I'm freaked out just seeing that photo. We live in a very rural area as well, and I will never get used to the bug & spiders.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Wow! I've never shuddered so much, opening up a blog post. Yikes. I'm in Florida and we have our critters, but nothing like that! Furry things are just skin-crawling!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Oh. ick. Man, I have the big hairy wolf spiders here too. We also live in the woods. I've had the exterminator out several times already, but WOW at your son's critter collection!!

I hope this is not what my future holds. Luckily Scooby prefers to smoosh them and declare "Dead bug" instead. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  71. EWWWWWWWW... I would have died if I saw that thing at my house. You guys have collected quite the collection of critters!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I have goosebumps after seeing that thing. Ick. Just ick. I don't think I would ever grill again without full protective gear.

    ReplyDelete
  73. AHHHHH!!!! Not cool. I keep telling my husband that I really want a boy next but now I'm not so sure. I really hate spiders and bugs and snakes and... **sigh** ok, I admit, I'm a sissy. Between you and Krista, I've had my share of bug pictures. :P

    ReplyDelete
  74. that little guy would have ended up flat under neath my shoe!! Ewwww!

    Happy WW

  77. Oh just looking at that spider made me feel a little nervous! The joys of boys :)

    ReplyDelete
  78. That is soooo my boy! Great pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Those are great photos! I love the large collection of photos proving that, yes, Boys will be boys!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Little boys are so awesome! Trust me, I had a hand in raising 4 of them! I think it's great that yours is so curious about the critters. And what a handsome young man!!!

From one bug-loving-boys-mother to another, just make sure he knows that if he ever gets bitten, DON'T PANIC! Panic increases blood flow to the heart, which in that kind of situation, is not good. I can't tell you how many times I told my boys this. Luckily they never got bit but you never know what can happen. My youngest son would pick up any kind of creature in a second!

  88. There is NOTHING about this post that I can handle and...can I just be really ignorant and say...I didn't know that tarantulas just lived in nature in North America!! I really didn't!!!....I would be moving...NOT KIDDING!!!!!!!!

My WW is a capture of one of the "firsts" that babes experience in the first two years..cute :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Just like my son. He would grab the first container he sees whenever he spots a spider or any other insect.

I played too. Mine are here and here.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I enjoyed your post. Great photos too.

    ReplyDelete
  91. You look so beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Thanks for letting me know about your linky party! And OMG! That spider gave me the heeby-jeebies! Totally scared of them and that one would have given me a heart attack!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Great pictures! Yup, boys will boys. :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. You are officially my hero. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have the grace to photograph such a creature, especially so close!

By the way, as soon as my kids spotted your spider, they took over the computer. Fifteen minutes later, after they'd admired every photo on your site, I finally got the computer back! They love the smiley-face breakfast and are quite puzzled by the watermelon-on-the-grill. Now I know where to go back and read! :D

    ReplyDelete
  97. I hate spiders, and this one looks SCAREY!! Your son is brave :)!

    ReplyDelete
  98. BTW, in which program do you do your collages? They are so pretty!!!

  99. I don't blame you on the exterminator one bit! My son was recently at my mom's and ran into a tarantula and came running to the house "Mom, Mom, that spider is chasing us on the 4-wheeler!" And they do in southern OK. Funny how are tarantulas look different- gonna have to look that one up- Ah, a project for the bored future 4th grader! LOL! ♥Mrs. Hart♥

  100. Oh. My. Word.

    Three things:

#1 - THAT IS A BIG ASS SPIDER! HUGE!

#2 - He has your smile, definitely!

#3 - I love that you have a collection of all his creepy crawlers. I know it's early to say, but I'm looking forward to Jack exploring nature and having a collection of our own for his scrapbook. :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yikes!!! My boys would love that... me? not so much!

    ReplyDelete
  102. THAT would completely freak me out!!! If I was there I'd be just like your daughter -- behind the doors. Your son has quite a collection of critters I see. Thankfully my boys have been satisfied with our parrot and don't have the opportunity to collect the more unusual pets in our part of the country! GREAT photos! You're forgiven for adding words!!! -- Dawn

  103. Yuck!! but that is soo my son (nd he's only 4... we have a LONG way to go).

    ReplyDelete
  104. Oh my god!!!! I can't believe that spider! I would DIE if that was near my house!!

  105. Hi!! Okay. First off I want to say that I'm new to your blog and I think it is amazing!! You are truly talented with the camera. All your pictures are gorgeous.

Second, this is why I can never be the mommy of a boy! OMG! No way! Yikes! I can hardly handle the pictures!!!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Normally this post would make my creepies crawl!
BUT today i like it, because I spent my morning watching a big spider spin a web on my glass door pane.

Haha, I was avoiding laundry, and his web was much more interesting anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Wow, my son would be thrilled too.
What an awesome collection....I'm with you though...too close for comfort.

  121. Oh.my.sick. That thing is too big to not be scary. I'm actually doing a post on Friday about my fear of spiders so I've been feeling a little itchy scratchy for the past few days just thinking about it . . . and then I see this! And I have two boys are starting to get curious about these things. Heaven help me.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Oh me I am not ready for my lil guy to be finding critters. He already loves worms and bugs. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Ewww!! I hate critters! I'm thinking God knew what he was doing when he gave me two girls! Ha!

    Beautiful pictures, btw.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Holy ginormous spider, Batman! That thing is huge! Your little man is so brave. I would have run far, far away!

    ReplyDelete
  125. I had to comment when I got home, for some reason I can't always comment on blogs from work.

That is one heck of a scary spider. I'm pretty sure I would have died at first sight!!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Oh.My.Stars.

You are so brave to have taken photos...my heart probably would have stopped at the sight of that thing!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Boys really do have a thing for spiders. Those pictures are fantastic by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Thanks for the linky! I'll have to make a nature collage of my nephews!

    ReplyDelete
  129. I see a budding entomologist in the making, he indeed seems to fascinated with every thing which wiggles, wriggles, creeps, crawls or flies.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Shudder! You need to give a girl a warning before throwing up pictures like that! Ewwwwwwwwwww.

    ReplyDelete
  131. YUCK (me screaming as I say it!)...ain't no way I'd want anything to do with that thing! I have to admit, I like the picture of him with the big bullfrog, though ;)

    ReplyDelete
  132. My son would be so impressed with that array of critters! I'm impressed too, not only with what your son has caught but that you cataloged it all!

    ReplyDelete
  133. I LOVE that collage!! That's AWESOME that you've photographed all these things that he's found and the collage is so very cute:)
