I took a run to soak up all the new gorgeous green lush around me. I indulged in a special treat. I had lunch with a girlfriend.
Then I set aside a few minutes to scrapbook. Back in the day before our formal office came to fruition. Pre-blogger, twitter, and facebook days... I had a scrapbooking room in the basement. Tables, space, all my goodies at my disposal. I could leave a page or two+ out and go about my day to return later, brimming with inspiration.
Then the digital world forged ahead. Paper became a thing of the past. My trinkets and treasures turned dusty. And my scrapbooking days were becoming fewer and fewer. Shutterfly and tiny prints did the legwork for me. And so many other sites were popping up, jumping on the insta-paperless-books bandwagon.
I miss it. I miss sitting and transforming a photo. Or ten photos. I miss the story I can tell with paper. I miss the creative outlet it provides.
So this week as the laundry piled up and the blogs went unread, I sat to again scrapbook, little bits here and there. Not the pre-made books. (Although I love those and they will also grace my coffee table.) I mean the real deal. The pages that start with a single thought and turn into a one-of-a-kind work of art customized just for me. The pages that make my creative juices flow. The perfect formula to refill my cup.
Now if I could only figure out how to do everything I want to digitally... Sigh.
I like the 12x12 books. And yes, some of it will be cut down the middle (as I design it as a 24 in spread), but I prefer my pages to flow that way. I think it gives a more uniform look. Here is an example from many moons ago- old school. (And good thing I don't take pics of scrapbook pages for a living. I'd need to practice a bit.)
I am no Becky Higgins or Ali Edwards, but I find the process therapeutic and rewarding.
And here for your viewing pleasure is a few of my own, not one alike, digital pages. Nothing extraordinary. But mine.

Alicia those are so beautiful.Good to hear that you took some time to yourself..I must do that more often..
ReplyDeletethese are wonderful digital arts!
ReplyDeletebtw, sorry if I linked twice :( my connection is acting up, I wasnt sure why the first try uses a different avatar and unfortunately thats not mine :( You can delete the #5 if you like. thanks and sorry for the hassle.
Beautiful pages! Funny, I've been feeling the same way!
ReplyDeleteJo-Anna
I was into scrapbooking for a while --before the kids came. You're right in that it's very therapeutic. Nowadays I just do every digital... so much easier and more instantaneous. Maybe I might go back to doing it the 'old' way one day... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always loving it when I visit your site...LOVE the new header. GORGEOUS!!
ReplyDeleteAlicia your pages made my breath catch in my throat.
ReplyDeleteThey are so beautiful.
And LOVE your new header :)
xx
Wow, these pages are beautiful! Wish I had the time to do all of this. Not to mention, I love the makeover on your blog!
ReplyDeleteI always just love your collages!!!
ReplyDeleteYou should do a post on how you do them sometime!!
;)
Good job on the scrapbook pages. Books, any kind of books - scrapbook, history books, novels - will never go out of style completely (at least I don't think so). There will always be some of us who love the feel of real paper in our hands. I still make photo albums, even though I have pics all over the coputer, I like looking through a real album. So, keep scrapbooking, there will always be someone who thinks that is real!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you kindly for the prayers and kind expressions for Kristin. She is home and doing better, but still in pain (which the doc says she will likely have for sometime and will have to get used to). But, she will get to walk with her class on Sunday, even with losing 6 weeeks of school. I have a brief post about her recovery on Family Fountain.

Those are such cool page layouts. I need to get on that. Love the new header!
ReplyDeleteOh your pages and things look great. I used to scrapbook in high school, but I don't think I have scrapbooked a thing since then some 12 years ago. I may pick it back. Right now I am trying to figure out photoshop. I have no idea what I am doing, but my husband bought and installed it so I am working on that.
ReplyDeleteLove the digital art and I love your new header!
ReplyDeleteSo Important to take time for yourself! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always left speechless when I come see what you've created. I love, LOVE your header! I haven't scrapped for almost 3 yrs. Blogging took over that part of my life. Then it took over my reading. I never thought I'd go digital because I loved my film camera so much. I did make the change about 5 yrs ago, but I do miss the photos in hand!
ReplyDelete~Mimi
Love these layouts! Scrapbooking is such a great way to get your creative fix.
ReplyDeleteI too need my cup refilled, unfortunately I can't think of what might do that. Oh wait...I know, it's your blog. It's words are always gracious, it's photos always inspiring. Thank you. I found your blog post on my dashboard as I always do, and I was redirected with no problem. If I hadn't noticed the new URL I wouldn't have even known that it was changed. It was a seemless transition, for me anyway :)
ReplyDeleteAnother hidden talent! beautiful pages.~Faythe~
ReplyDeleteOne day, I am going to stop coming here but I'm just so darn curious.
ReplyDeleteYour work is gorgeous! You have a very creative mind. I stopped scrapbooking after I realized that I just can't do it. I can't get the image from my mind to actually happen on paper.
Nice stuff! :) And, for real, there is something about holding it in your hand that the computer can't replace! :)
Tiffany
what a great reminder! i'm a new follower...thank you for hosting the linky!
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely!! I am a paper scrapbooker. I have not learned how to digitally scrapbook yet, but I am dying to learn! So far I just rely on Shutterfly.
ReplyDeleteI was totally into scrapbooking before everything went digital. My papers and stickers and all those supplies I lovingly and longingly picked out and purchased are also gathering dust. It's sad but I doubt I'll ever go back to it. :(
ReplyDeleteYou do such a fantastic job with scrapbooking, both traditionally and digitally. I'm beginning to wonder if there's anything Lish can't do. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the new look!
Your creativity is amazing. I love your stuff!
ReplyDeleteGreat scrapbooking. Glad you took some you time.
ReplyDeletelove i! Im a scrapper, and although I like the digi stuff on occasion- there is just nothing like getting your paper out to play with!
ReplyDeleteLove your pages, I never got the hang of paper scrapping like I did with digital scrapping (which I do whenever I have time, and love!) but I think it's such a great way to take a little "me" time, immersing yourself into creating a page and forgetting about the million other things that need to be done.
ReplyDeleteYour pages are beautiful. I wish I had the patience for that. My poor childrens' pictures will be forever trapped on my hard drive, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteWonderful scrapbooking pages! Fun and inspirational to get back into it I bet:)
ReplyDeleteYou do amazing work! I love looking at all your projects. My favorite was the Mother card :)
ReplyDeleteThose pages are wonderful! I don't scrapbook (although I've tried in the past), but I do knit. That's my creative outlet for the moment. :)
ReplyDeleteI filled my cup by spending an afternoon in the mountains with my dad. It was awesome!
ReplyDeleteWell My cup is too full but I get similar results. Left a broken nail for three days all the time marveling that I wasn't obsessing over it. Between developing my site and helping with grandchildren it seems I have no time at all for gardening, little for sewing, and even cooking is haphazard, but I love it!
ReplyDeleteYour scrapbook is much like your digital presentations, You truly have a gift. I can totally understand why you might want to get away from the computer for a while to cut and paste the old fashioned way. But which ever way you do it you produced beautiful works of art.
I need my cup to be re-filled big time! Thanks for joining in my WW link up. Sarah
ReplyDeleteLove the refilling process... I need a bit of that in my life right now!! Thanks for the reminder :) And your pages are divine!
ReplyDelete~Tabitha
Love your site, thanks for sharing. I will keep coming back for great scrapbooking ideas.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pics!! I need to scrapbook sooo bad. My daughters are 7 and 9 and I haven't finished the baby albums- shame, shame! Thanks for stopping by for WW!

ReplyDeleteSimply Delicious
beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE digital scrapbooking as well, but never was able to get into paper scrapbooking, not sure why.
Lovely scrapbooking.. I too haven't been doing much manual scrapbooking since switching to digital..but manual really makes better for keeping and sharing with family.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job. I only hope I can find my own creative outlet again soon.
ReplyDeleteYour layouts look terrific! I used to enjoy scrapbooking, but I've moved on to other things. I have so many supplies just collecting dust, too!
ReplyDeleteI've been filling my cup by being sure to do my morning yoga and breathing exercises. It helps calm me, so that no stress creeps in!
WW
Fantastic,
ReplyDeleteAlso love the new look and your header :-)
Happy WW!
Beautiful pages alicia! I'm a paper scrapbooker, but the idea of digital pages are looking more and more easier and fun ... not to mention getting more done in a shorter period!! I may just have to try it!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to see some of my layouts, they're here - http://corisbigmouth.com/category/just-for-fun/scrapbooking/
Happy WW!
Those are beautiful! I would love to be able to do that. I don't think I have the patience though.
ReplyDeleteThose are great scrapbook pages. I need to find time to do that again too.
ReplyDeleteScrapbooking - how do you do it? Have a grand plans but I barely get the digital book done, I am still working on 2010.

Alicia, I enjoyed your images (as always). And I think for all the new capabilities the digital world has given us, there are sometimes nothing is as therapeutic as the tactile pleasure of working with "actual" materials! (I like your new header too!).
ReplyDeleteThose are fantastic, and beautiful! Your creativity in transforming these is just breath taking.
ReplyDeleteLove the digital scrapbook, very cool pages! You come up with such creative things!
ReplyDeleteFantastically well put together series of images. I now feel inspired to create my own scrapbook...
ReplyDeleteGlad you refilled your cup. Lunch with a girl friend never hurts! I love your scrapbook pages! Happy Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteThose all turned out beautiful - 'old school' and new! :) I miss the 'escape' with my craft room - now it's in storage room mode...I really need to clean it out and reset it back up so I can enjoy some relaxing 'old school' moments, too.
ReplyDeleteWW: Curriculum Fair Fun with YoYo's
WOW!! They certainly are beautiful! How creative of you!!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
I was way into scrapbooking and can't seem to find time to do it anymore. My kids' scrapbooks are way behind. I thought about going digital and I just can't make myself do it. Just not the same. I keep saying I'll have time when the kids are older and in school full-time. we'll see....
ReplyDeleteI love your make a wish layout. You're right about scrapbooking being therapeutic. I find it stress relieving.
ReplyDeleteThat's too funny. I have a post waiting to be published about this too.
ReplyDeleteThe Lord refills my cup. Reading His word and praying. Also spending time my girl friends, going for a run and listening to music all do it for me.
Pre twitter and blogger? I barely recall but so glad you got some time for yourself. And I LOVE the Prairie Soccer Club!
ReplyDeleteHi, Alicia. Thank you for stopping by my blog. Actually the challenge that was posted I got from a photography book called The Art of Composition by Bert Kragges.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love your artwork!
Love all of the pages that you made. I wish I had time.
ReplyDeleteI love this post #1 your paper layout is awesome - so many people have stopped doing it entirely (I treasure my paper stuff - I love to see it sitting on my shelf and I love to touch it) #2 your digital layouts are awesome (I see you use some elements from Designer Digitals - the talent over there blows me away!) #3 I do experience creative slumps but my worst enemy is the voice that says 'why are you doing this - what is the point' and that's when I know I need to go to bed!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the mother one!! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteWhen my cup is empty? Looking at pictures can fill it again.
ReplyDeleteAnd looking at yours just did. Just beautiful, Lish....love how you keep finding the beauty in things.
Once again you have completely inspired me to do something new. I have not played with Elements enough to know this was available- but now I will. These are fantastic!! Thanks for always pushing me to want to try new things!
ReplyDeleteMy cup is almost empty too, but I have no intention of even thinking of filling it until after this week -- it's finals. :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I have always wanteed to learn to scrapbook. Your pages are beautiful! Thanks for stopping by my blog this morning.

ReplyDeleteI very much love your new header! Lovely. I'm filling my glass with Ruari. :D
ReplyDeleteamazing layouts!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE scrapbooking and never seem to have the time anymore. Your pages are gorgeous and seeing this inspired me to dust off the pages of some of my old school favorites. You are so talented!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, I love designing these pages, I envy you, for that I am quite inept.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I wish I had the time and know how to do these for my kids. I keep telling myself this is how I will keep busy when they're all grown and out of the house! :)
ReplyDeletethis was inspiring. thanks. my cup has needed a refill for a while now.
