If you’ve ever moved a family cross country you’ll know exactly what I mean. And don’t think for a second that having movers makes life less complicated.
I had to watch those guys like a hawk. I knew I was in trouble when they packed my pumpkins. Real of course. (Our belongings may be in storage for 2 months.) Can you say mold?
I have spent the better part of the last few days trying to order cords, purchase supplies, and retrieve copies of important documents that were packed up before I got to them.
But alas, we have landed in the beautiful state of South Carolina. I received a warm welcome from some overly zealous palmetto bugs (aka ginormous flying roaches) that flew out at me. I am now armed and ready for their next surprise visit.
Columbia is home to Lake Murray, a reservoir that is approximately 50,000 acres with over 600 miles of shoreline.
We will be staying in a furnished lake house for a couple months right smack on Lake Murray while we sort through everything. It includes breathtaking views on two acres and endless entertainment for the kiddos...
Unfortunately it also includes no internet. Hubs has graciously given me a 3G hookup through our cell phone, but it is very limited with a weak signal. The owner is working to get internet out here, but it sounds like a monumental task and I am not holding my breath.
I am trying to remember to grab the camera for all the new, beautiful photo ops...
I have also been enjoying some much needed time with the fam.
Monday I had to whip up some costumes and Little Man was dead set on being a zombie. I have no idea why they must be such gory monsters, but I did what I could to oblige.
The lighting was perfect prior to trick or treating and I got some fun pics by the lake.
Although it is beautiful here, it is certainly not without obstacles. I am trying hard to look at it as an adventure.
I know the kids are.
If only we could live with the innocence and enthusiasm of a child...

Wow, congrats on the new temporary lodging. I love it that your son is already catching fish (amongst other things). Good luck with the internet connection!
ReplyDeleteI can understand How difficult it can be for you to move and and that to with kiddos...I have moved before so.but the view at the lake house are gorgeous:) to make up for that:)
ReplyDeletePretty soon you can relax, think of the end game!!!

These are such lovely images of your kids and your new home!
ReplyDeleteFab photos as usual :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day :-)
Always a pleasure to visit here.
ReplyDeleteI´m glad you had a safe trip to South Carolina! I know how it is to move far away. As a teenager I had to move with my Family from East-Germany to West-Germany. And this was still when they had the borders up. It was at night and very adventures. ;) But luckily now there is only one Germany!
ReplyDeleteI hope everything will work out fine for you and your Family and you will find a nice house pretty soon!
xoxo

My parents love South Carolina! Where you are is simply gorgeous! I can't imagine being without wireless for so long, but I'm sure it makes you focus on other important things, like family. =)

welcome home!!
ReplyDeleteLove these pics, Lish! Looks like the kids are having a blast. I hope your internet situation is resolved soon and that you all settle in well in your new "home". :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks as if you have moved to another photogenic place! I look forward to your wonderful shots.
ReplyDeleteWow.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful spot - photographers heaven!
Too bad about the internet :(
I look forward to discovering ALL about Sth Carolina through you
xxx
Those are breathtaking shots Alicia!! So sorry to hear about the lack of internet. I think that would drive me CRAZY. I hope that all gets fixed super quick. Until then you have a lovely place!
ReplyDeleteLooks like paradise! There's a wintery snow mix in the forecast this week, so you got out just in time. Love the Hawkeye sweatshirt. Hopefully Iowa will hold a special place in your hearts. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, gorgeous pics! I love the ones at the lake. Looks like your kids had a fun Halloween!
ReplyDeleteLovely spot..adore the one of the kids on the dock ;)
ReplyDeleteTotally, totally would give up internet for a while in exchange for that setting. Hope you get settled in nicely.
ReplyDeleteThese are great. I love them so much. I would take that place over the internet any day. Ha ha!! That first one is breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! Super jealous of your temp location (though I'm not jealous of your lack of interwebz... boo!)
ReplyDeleteI am amazed that you were able to post as much as you have during a move. movers tried to pack your pumpkins?? LOL! I hope they left any unwanted critters or dust behind too, the big bugs you encountered should be enough. I am in love with your "temp" lodging! I may sneak cyber wise over for a stay. I need some relaxation too. I agree about watching the world through a childs eyes, but wisdom does help in some important matters. ~hugs, Faythe @ GMT~
ReplyDeleteNot having solid internet would drive me nuts...but it sounds as if you've landed in a great location!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting.

We just moved cross country for the 3rd time in 4 years. Yes, I do understand what it is like, craziness...lol I have heard horror stories of garbage cans (full of garbage) being packed, yikes! Amazing captures, so glad to be joining in this week!
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh-mazing! Love the place you're staying and the photos! Wow. I totally know the feelings you're going through... you'll make it!! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you safely arrived. It does sound like a grand adventure in a beautiful location! I love the pics of the kids' costumes.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know you were moving down south! Welcome!! (I am in TN!)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to SC, y'all! Let me know when you want me to treat you to lunch ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, as always!!!
I live in Charleston so you are not far from me at all!
ReplyDeleteso good to hear you arrived safely and the truck made it too!! We had mishaps with packers and that just doesn't work with my controling tendencies, i've always packed myself since :)
ReplyDeleteI don't envy you moving but the lake house looks worth it, what fun! It just doesn't seem like you without Iowa but then the distinction of your pictures of the kids show that Iowa is just a place your camera happened to have been in residence for a time, and that you are where your camera is.
ReplyDeleteBeen there...done that, although we moved 2 states away, but I know the stress and frustration of moving far away from home! Lucky you guys to have found a place by the lake, which, btw, looks gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear you got there ok. You will have warmer weather, a prettier place to live, but bugs and possibly allergy issues. I lived in Savannah, GA. Lots of bugs and I got huge migraines from allergies that I never had before. Now I'm back in Omaha, NE. The scenery is lame here, my headaches are gone and less flying roaches. If you ever have a chance, visit Charleston, SC and/or Savannah, GA. So much history in those two places!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get settled into your new home quickly! Moving can be so overwhelming. South Carolina is a beautiful place though! My dad was born and raised in Florence, SC. :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the B&W of the pine cones! Your photos are always so inspiring :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting and the great template. It was my first time using one and your tutorial on clipping masks was very helpful. Hope all goes well with your move.
ReplyDeleteWell I just have so much to say to this post! First CONGRATS. Second, your son has a South Carolina sweat shirt on already so it looks they are adjusting well. Third, you have a STUNNING view internet or not. Fourth, I LOVE the South. Very different than Iowa...or ND where I live but unique culture and fantastic weather from now until May. :) Happy to see you getting semi-settled minus moldy pumpkins.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous place to stay even on a temporary basis until you get things sorted out - a nice way to transition to your new digs! ;) Love the costumes - your son made the perfect zombie. ;) Looking forward to reading more and seeing more awesome shots as you get settled in! :)
ReplyDeleteBTW - my link will go live in about an hour...I'm borrowing a WiFi hotspot from the gas station about a mile from my house to upload my post since we've had no internet, cable TV or phone since the snowstorm on Saturday. But I didn't want to miss out linking up! :)
Wonderful photos. I hope you enjoy your new temporary home on the lake!
ReplyDeleteNo. Internet. Oh. My. You're doing a great job keeping your wits about you it sounds like - wish I could explain/rectify the palmetto bug situation but after 46 years down south I say - invest in sturdy flip flops (for squishing) and perfect your aim. Sorry.
ReplyDeletePacked your pumpkins? LOL! And that is one scary-looking zombie. Have fun unpacking - I actually love it. Wish I could help.
ReplyDeleteHalloween was canceled here!
Love the photos. The pictures with the fish crack me up!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures.. great costumes your kids have one this halloween.. mine went as a skeleton
ReplyDeleteLove your photos!!!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the east! :)
Take the time to enjoy your family... and take tons of great photos!!!!
Your photos are gorgeous!! Love them.
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
wow--i can only imagine how complicated such a move is. we've moved a lot in the last few years, all in the same neighborhood...and it was still a holy mess.
ReplyDeletethat last pic of your two kids is priceless!
Congrats on your move. I hope you find your new groove soon.
ReplyDeleteI used to live there! :)

Thanks for hosting again!!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures you've posted are beautiful!! I hope your 'adventure' is a great one!! Enjoy time with the family!!
SC becomes you all! So happy you made it there safe and turning it into a home so fast!
ReplyDelete:) it's an honour to have one of your photos on my blog hop 'Earth Wonders' (theme: Brown) but I'm sad you didn't link back, dear Lish! I always link back to your meme. xxo
ReplyDeleteAna
The lake views are beautiful. The kids look great in their costumes.
ReplyDeleteWow, what an adventure. It looks like the kids are having a lot of fun. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat? Packing your pumpkins. That is crazy.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you arrived and yes the view is GORGEOUS. If you don't get internet connection, you will have more time to walk around snapping the view.
so sorry for the hardships in moving but sounds like you are working hard to remain positive. Wishing you luck and I know everything will end up fabulous! Enjoy that lake house - looks amazing there!
ReplyDeleteBern
Looks awesome! We live on a lake and it is so much fun for my boys! It's sorta in the boonies and we have to drive 20 minutes to get to Target (I know, gasp), but it is wonderful. Except for when it snows and we are trapped out here for weeks all Shining like.
ReplyDeleteseriously cannot believe that you are already in SC. It seems like yesterday when I first found out you were moving. Hope you enjoy your new home and don't let the Palmetto bugs get to you. It scared the hell out of me when I first saw them but now it's like nothing. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots! Enjoy your new state and home.
ReplyDeleteWow Mama! You have a lot on your plate. That kind of an adventure is so bitter-sweet. Looks like you are in a beautiful place though and your kids look happy ;) Hang in there! It will get easier.
ReplyDeleteLove your gorgeous photos!!!
And palmetto bugs creep me out. I've experienced them when visiting family in FL. Eek! But, hey, we found a Black Widow in our garage this week. Think I'd rather have a Palmetto bug ;P
I would just like to say...
ReplyDeleteWelcome to South Carolina!
Oh my goodness. You get cactus AND pinecones? Sounds like a picturesque heaven.
ReplyDeleteI love your photos - especially the one of your son holding that fish! That sun fish may be considered s junk fish, but your photo elevates it to a new respectable level! Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to South Carolina! I live up the road from you in Greenville! What wonderful photos by the lake.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to South Carolina! Love that Carolina shirt! Ok, after you get settled in you can teach a photography class. I'll be the first to sign up! Beautiful pics as always!
ReplyDeleteMoving is so much work! And I've only moved from within my small community ... I can't imagine moving across the country! Your new location is beautiful though. And your pictures are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine moving across country and living in a temporary location! Even though it is gorgeous, I'll bet it certainly is frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can enjoy the first couple of months in SC with childlike abandon! :)
Welcome to the neighborhood! Haha well not really but we're in Georgia so we're not far! Lake Murray is gorgeous! You'll love it there! Plus lots of beautiful scenery for photos!
ReplyDeleteWOW- what an adventure you are on Lish!! I have to say- using movers was the best thing I ever did- it was the easiest move we have ever done & we have done a lot of them. But I didn't have them pack us- I'm a bit of a control freak in that area. I love where you are staying but I too would be freaking out about the internet. We have actually turned down certain houses when we were on the hunt because they didn't have high speed access. But that was a long term deal. You will certainly have some amazing photo ops while you are staying there- I can't wait to see them all over the coming weeks. So excited fro you guys!
ReplyDeleteSounds like quite an ordeal; especially their packing the pumpkins - UGG!!! The positive is all of the beautiful pictures and it is all over (minus the unpacking). Neat Wordless Wednesday; thanks for hosting. I am a new follower to your GFC and blog. I'm looking forward to reading along more often. Hugs & Blessings :)
ReplyDeleteWow....beautiful scenery! I'm jealous! We now live in sunny Miami but there isn't much more than a palm tree and a beach. I miss lakes, mountains.... Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteI've also stumbled your post :-)
You are so relaxed about everything! A move like that would stress me out so much.
ReplyDeleteThose pictures on the lake gave me chills. They are so beautiful! Congrats on the move and your new home. How exciting.
Absolutely amazing photos. South Carolina is so beautiful....I know what you mean when it comes to moving. Having moved over a dozen times (literally) I've managed to become a minimalist. I think it's made me not only a packing expert but a more patient woman...our last move was last year, from America to Asia...with 3 little loonies in tow and 10 luggages! I survived a 24 hour cross continental flight....
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds like quite the move! It's pretty sad how horrified I am about the idea of no internet for an extended time period!! But at least it's new photography fodder and it looks like it's a GREAT fishing lake! I hope you guys are all settled in soon!
ReplyDeleteAlicia, it looks absolutely beautiful out there! Wow.
ReplyDeleteGood luck getting everything sorted, I know exactly how much of a pain moving like that is. When we moved to Chicago we had to live with my in-laws for 2 months before we could find a place, urgh!
They tried to pack your pumpkins?! Beautiful photos- looks like an awesome place to stay.
ReplyDeleteWow-- such amazing shots. I'm always impressed! I live in Raleigh which isn't far... and I grew up in Greenville SC! Love your son wearing his Gamecock shirt... but I went to Clemson so I don't love it THAT much. :-)
ReplyDeleteLooooooooove Lake Murray!!! <3 My husband grew up near there and my inlaws are still around. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteI love your photography! It's so nostalgic!
ReplyDelete(PS - It's nice to see SC from a newcomer's eye. I live in Charleston!)
Gillian from Baby Talk without the Babble
Alicia, how do you get this soft almost antique quality to your photos? Is that an application after the fact or something your doing in the field? Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to South Carolina...I LOVE it here! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place!! I hope you get all settled in quickly.. Gorgeous pictures :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place!! Hope you get settled in quickly.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow...an adventure to say the least! It looks to be a gorgeous place. I really hope you get 'hooked up' soon so we can see all your beautiful photos as you discover the area.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking time to come visit and comment (and for pinning!) <3
Looking forward to purple!
Welcome to the South! Glad to hear you made it safely, and a lakeside house sounds like a GREAT way to start an adventure! Hope you can relax and enjoy the adventure, after what you went through to get there you deserve it!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
~EdT. (from Texas)
Such beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing them. Glad you're settling in & hope you'll have internet soon.
ReplyDeletemoving can be really tough!
ReplyDeleteI love your black and white shots :)
Lake Murray is beautiful, isn't it? I hope you get into your new permanent home soon.
ReplyDeleteBummer about the internet but what a trade off...the view is so beautiful..water forever. I was glad to see, from your other post, that you son returned the turtle to the lake since it needs water and is so big. The tortoise at my daughter's preschool was that size and was over 50. It's been 10 years since I've seen it. I wonder how big they get in 10 years. I guess we'll have to visit to find out.
ReplyDeletewow! nice shots and the scenes too! so much fun! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Wordless Wednesday! My entry is here and here.
beautiful photos...i love the color of the trees.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photography you have here. I like the photo processing and all the tones.
ReplyDeleteGwen
The pictures look great and the kids look super happy. I am glad you guys have arrived and send wishes to you for lots of help in getting your new household set up. Moving is a nightmare! Oh I love the dock!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for hosting Alicia! Happy WW! :-)
