Your photos move me and make me want to do better. Whether you use a point and shoot, a smart phone, or a DSLR... all are invited to participate in Wordless Wednesday or in any of my photo challenges.
If you missed it, yesterday I was busy Unveiling the Poetic Winter Photography Challenge.
I'm teaming up with Rebecca of Bumbles & Light, Faith of Sweet Violet and Kristi of Live and Love Out Loud to bring you this inspiring 4-week photo challenge, Feb 3rd-24th.
You can find details and the complete list of prompts on my Poetic Winter Challenge Page.
Now on to the regularly scheduled WW post...
After projects, sickness, and lots of life... we jumped in the car and headed to Hunting Island State Park yesterday.
I climbed the 167 stairs to the top and back. Cause I'm on a mission to overcome my fears.
The views were breathtaking and definitely made it worth it.
The beach housed a graveyard of sorts and was the coolest location ever to explore and find treasures.
(I came home with piles of driftwood and have been researching cool DIY driftwood projects in case you follow me on pinterest and thought I'd lost my mind.)
Upon arriving at the park it felt as if we were entering a jungle. The landscape was wild and amazing with the spanish moss, palm trees, and prickly pears. Pics do not begin to do it justice.
Oh, and guess what I found on the way at a little place called Carolina Cider Company?
Pie! Homemade, fresh apple pie to be exact. A perfect compliment to my beach experience. (We recently found out the only pie store within a 45 mile radius of us is a little shop downtown Columbia that charges $45 per pie! So, this was a welcome treat.)
I absolutely love that there are endless beaches 2-3 hours away. Can't wait to explore the next one.
How did you spend the weekend?
Thanks again for stopping by. If you want to participate in Wordless, Not So Wordless or Wordful Wednesday, just grab a photo and link your post below. And feel free to stop by some of my favs...
I can't wait for the next photo challenge. I, as you may remember, live where winter isn't here so I'm already trying to think of what to do for these themes.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your photos! I have a thing for lighthouses and have always wanted to go on a photo tour of a bunch of them. One of my favorites, and I've actually been to it, is the one on St Simon's Island, GA. If you ever get a change...go!
I'm going to go google how far that one is right now. lol. I also have a thing for lighthouses.
DeleteI KNEW you must be doing some redecorating with driftwood after seeing your recent Pinterest stuff. So glad you're enjoying where you're at. The pics are great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anna! I knew people would wonder with all my strange pins. lol.
DeleteAww these photos are breathtaking! I´m jealous! I miss the beach and the warm temperatures! It´´s freezing cold over here in Germany.Actually, I´m sitting here with my blanket. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a happy WW!
Verena
Sending warm thoughts your way, Verena!
DeleteWOW!!! These are sooo gorgeous. I love them. Looks like a fun day and that pie looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteSarah, thanks. The pie WAS delish! We picked up a second to take home with us and ate it last night. lol.
DeleteI don't know what it is about the pictures this particular week... perhaps it is just because I am especially emotional today... but the ones of the beach actually brought tears to my eyes. I just love the peacefulness of them. Even in winter the beach feels peaceful to me. I needed that today- thanks :)
ReplyDeleteYou really do have a gift- I so appreciate you sharing it with us :)
ok, enough sappiness from me! Have a great week!
Thanks so much Tara for your kind words. The beach is one of my favorite places on earth. And yes, peaceful is a great way to describe it. And btw, you're not alone- I'm having one of those emotional days too...
DeleteBeautiful images Alicia. It looks like you all had a great day at the beach and looking at the pie makes me want to bake.
ReplyDeleteI am also going to check out your new photo meme. I always love a good photo challenge to get the creative juices flowing.
Thanks Michelle. Please come and join our winter challenge! I'm looking forward to it!
DeleteThese photos are so dang gorgeous, Lish! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks girl. Having fun with my fisheye, but there is still soooo much to learn!
DeleteSo pretty! I can't pick a favorite.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly looks like your new fisheye lens is getting a workout! One nice thing about living in the South: you can go to the beach during winter!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
~EdT.
Agreed! Can't complain. And yes, the fisheye is a hit!
DeleteBeautiful beaches! They look so warm and inviting instead of the winter storm this morning. That fish-eye lens is certainly getting a workout!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm jealous of the white photo ops, I'll take 60s any day. lol.
DeleteClimbing all those stairs up and down, sounds like great exercise and what a beautiful view, though it reminds me I'm not comfortable with heights... The beach is gorgeous, looks cold, We have had beatuiful clear weather but an icy chill wind which kept me home trying to stay warm all weekend.
ReplyDeleteI am also afraid of heights... which is why I had to do it! Not sure I'm cured, but baby steps... Thanks so much for stopping by.
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! Your photos are so beautiful. I believe this is the first time I've been to your blog and I have just gotten lost in your photography :)
ReplyDeleteCome back and visit anytime, Tina! So nice to "meet" you! :)
DeleteGORGEOUS! Just gorgeous, Alicia!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jenni! You're sweet!
DeleteThe staircase is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteThanks Meghan. One of my favs too.
DeleteWhat a fun place! I am so glad it is close by! Awesome times ten!
ReplyDeleteLove that. And I couldn't agree more! Awesome times ten! :)
DeleteLooks like a fabulous time! Gorgeous photos! I would have climbed all those stairs just to get that picture that you took looking down the stairs. :)
ReplyDeleteActually that was looking up- lol. But I really did climb to the top. And the views made it worth it for me. Maybe one day I'll brave taking the photo of the staircase looking down. :)
DeleteBeautiful photos! Wow!! I'm a new follower! Thanks for linking up at my blog!
ReplyDeletewww.yeewittlethings.blogspot.com
Thanks Brandi! I hope you'll join in again next week!
DeleteThe beach scene is just fabulous over there! Miss the beach :)
ReplyDeleteYes, it really is fabulous. I can't believe how each one is so different just miles apart too. Love that!
DeleteAmazingly gorgeous photos Alicia! I am always in awe of your talent. Love these pics. What an awesome place to visit and have pie ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, I ate pie at the beach. I think that should have been my title. lol. Thanks for the kind, encouraging words. Always more to learn...
DeleteArrrgh I love your beautiful photos!! But right now I'm not sure what I love more - your photos, or the look of that pie?!! Wow! I kind of have to keep scrolling back up to it just to have another look... There's some serious pie worship going on right here! And stomach rumbling... There's an apple pie in the freezer, but it's a supermarket bought Big Ben and there's just no way it's gonna measure up to the pie of yours that I swear I can taste inside my head. :/ ($45 for a pie at the other place? That's C R A Z Y!)
ReplyDeletelol. After moving here we were feeling a little deprived when we learned (on hub's b-day) that there were NO pie shops except for that crazy one that charges $45/pie! (Which we did have 2 slices of peanut butter at for about $16.) So stoked to find a pie shop (with reasonable prices) even if it isn't that close. I'll take it!
DeleteLOVE your images! So cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela!
DeleteIt is so beautiful there.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful! I'm enjoying capturing all of the new photo ops here. This particular beach was amazing. So much to take in! Thanks for stopping by Lolo!

Yes, it was a fun day at the beach- full of memorable stories. Thanks so much for the follow! Looking forward to getting to know you better!
DeleteI really like the soft color tones of you photos. They look so warm and comforting. Do you use a filter?
ReplyDeleteNo filter, Dave. Just some post processing actions. I did a post recently about actions if you aren't familiar.
DeleteI swoon over your images every stinkin' week! Beautiful! Thank you for hosting.

Beki :)
Thanks so much! Happy WW to you too!
DeleteSo fun that you are exploring in South Carolina! You deserve some quality family time with all the hectic times you've had. Enjoy! We are busy with basketball season for our son and had two games last weekend. 2 more this week.
ReplyDeleteHaving children certainly makes for some crazy "busyness", so it's nice to have quiet moments together- especially on a beach! Thanks for linking up Katie!
DeleteReally lovely photos as always .... & the lighthouse pictures are outstanding. Thanks for sharing these!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Really enjoying the fisheye! Appreciate the visit!
DeleteWow thanks for taking us along your photos are gorgeous...
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming! Feel free to join me any time!
DeleteWhat a lovely time. The scenery is breathtaking. And I really like your shot of the stairs. Sure were a lot of them.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe the price of the pie you mentioned. Whoa.
167 to be exact. I know! lol. But now I am one step closer to overcoming and conquering my fears. :) And yes, $45 is insane!
DeleteI love the one of you at the light house and the stairs! So pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteSuch amazing and stunning photos and adventures you have!
ReplyDeleteSometimes we have adventures. Sometimes it's just mundane life. So, our adventures mean more when we have them! Thanks for the visit Trish!
DeleteAs if I knew you were all going to be sporting flip flops, I got you a snowman :) Off to see about the challenge. Wonderful photos Lish!!!
ReplyDeleteAw. Thanks. :) And your snowman certainly is stylish! Thanks for the kind words Stasha!
DeleteFab photos - I really love the spiral staircase, and the expression on your son's face as he tucks into that pie is so well caught!
ReplyDeleteThanks Barbara! Catching his expression was pure luck. lol
DeleteWow! Amazing photos, you take such gorgeous shots! Loved seeing your beach adventure!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! The beach certainly provided ample photo ops!
DeleteI love that Pie!! Great adventure at the beach..love your photography.
ReplyDeleteI loved that pie too! lol. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteLOL, love the driftwood/Pinterest comment :)
ReplyDeleteStill trying to figure out what I want to do with the smaller ones, but my large piece looks amazing on my mantel! Just wait... more pins to come. :)
DeleteLOVE your lens! Your pics are beautiful, and I'm totally jealous of the weather you guys have. It's not beach weather here in Maine anymore. We just finally got a snow storm that actually stuck around instead of melting.. boo! Is it Spring yet? hehe
ReplyDeleteIt's so cool you were able to climb in the lighthouse. I've always wanted to do that, but all the lighthouses in the area won't allow people inside anymore. :( I'm not sure why.
and $45 a pie?? Holy Cow that's insane!
Hope you have a great Wednesday!!

Guess I hadn't thought of not being able to climb up. This one had no lines and it was great for this here scaredy-cat. And yes, I'm loving my new lens! It certainly is getting a workout! Although I love the beach and the photo ops here, I also love the white ones, so make sure to get the camera out and photograph them for me!
DeleteI LOVE the beach in winter...
ReplyDeleteso bleak, so wild...
of course its summer here, so our beach is more "sunshine" and "swimming"
I love the beach in all seasons, as long as is not a crowded tourist mecca...
give me an empty beach every time.
Just me, the sea and the sky.
LOVE your images.
Love those bleak wintry colours.
Especially love that twisted dragonish driftwood and that Shell.
xx
Yes, bleak, empty beaches are kinda my fav too. They make for beautiful photo ops! But I have to say, I really loved all your warm beachy pics too. You certainly did a beautiful job capturing the essence of summer there!
DeleteGorgeous photos! I love the staircase shot.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! It seems to be a fav today.
DeleteLooking forward to the Poetic Winter challenge. Have a super day, Alicia. :)
ReplyDeleteYah! Me too. Can't wait to see all the wonderful entries for our first prompt, solitude!
DeleteLove these photos! Very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lori!
DeleteStunning photos! I love driftwood, just love it! I need to see what all you're doing on Pinterest now!
ReplyDeleteFeel free to stop by my pinterest page. I'm just busy pinning away! I think I may be an addict. lol. And btw, I'm looking forward to figuring out something cool for my driftwood!

ReplyDeleteYep, insane! Thanks for stopping by and linking up!
DeleteFabulous captures and love the fisheye. Looks like an amazing family adventure!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a fab adventure. I'm looking forward to more in my near future! :)
DeleteYou know, I think that new lens of yours give me some sort of motion sickness when I look at the pics - how weird is that!
ReplyDeletehaha! I've heard that from a few people now. I think it isn't for everyone. But actually only some of these were taken with the fisheye.
DeleteGorgeous images! Love the compositions and the scenery. Especially like your son's tongue, anticipating that pie. lol :)
ReplyDeleteThat was just one lucky shot. Thanks for the kind words. Always appreciate the visit!
DeleteI love visiting your blog it makes me feel happy. These wonderful photos took me back to a wonderful time when my husband and I spent precious days and evening at the coast of Oregon. Thank you. Hugs and smooches and happy Wednesday
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Katherine. Glad they could evoke such fond memories for you! Hugs to you too!
DeleteGood morning! Your photos are breathtaking. Isn't it something to watch how we all develop in our shooting skills. I had family along the coast, love those days exploring the coast in Alabama. BTW I have collected driftwood for years. I saw a Ralph Lauren ad years ago with a large wall mirror framed with the driftwood. I hope to use it for that. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day Alicia.
ReplyDeleteYes, my shooting style is evolving (as am I). And as for driftwood, I also love it. I'm just now being awakened to the endless possibilities. So exciting! Thanks for the thoughtful comment!
DeleteWhat an absolutely beautiful place!! Looks like a wonderful way to spend the weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was actually just a day. Boy... Can you imagine the photo ops over a whole weekend? lol.
DeleteBEAUTIFUL photos! Lovely beach. *Jealous!*

Somehow I found your blog today....and am so happy. Your pictures of the family are gorgeous...you are all so beautify. Enjoyed the beach shots...I grew up on the Atlantic and now live in the mountains of VA so these type shot always bring back memories. Love your use of the fish eye. I bombed with mine so put in back not the box. Gave up til another time. It is wonderful you have such a fabulous following for Wordless Wednesday. I hope to join in soon. Take care and thanks for letting me into your little blog house on hump day. genie
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by! What kind of fisheye do you have? You should dig it out and give it another go. I just got mine at Christmas and it's been fun to play with.
Deletegreat, great job at tackling your fears!! My goodness that lighthouse photo needs to be hanging in my house. You aren't selling it by chance are you?

The top photo? I could add it to the etsy collection if there was interest. ;) Thanks so much for your words of encouragement!
DeleteWhat a beautiful place to live!
ReplyDeleteThe beaches are all about 2-3 hours away- perfect for weekend or day trips.
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful location. Great scenery! And that pie...wow, $45! Most expensive little pie I've ever heard of. Hope it tasted like a million bucks. =)
ReplyDeleteWe actually only had 2 slices of the $45 pie (and it ran about $16). The little pie at the beach was only $8. Unfortunately it is not a shop nearby. We found it on the way to the beach and had to stop. lol.
DeleteI would love to walk those endless beaches too, that looks gorgeous. I'm SOOO envy:)
ReplyDeleteAww. I know you have gorgeous scenery near you! But I must admit, I'm loving the new photo ops here!
DeleteAmazing captures! Thanks for sharing and hosting. I know my link up this week was not the usual Wordless Wednesday, hope you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteThat does look like a great place to go with endless finds!

ReplyDeleteOk, first of all, your family is beautiful. Second of all, that picture of the staircase took my breath away. It is beautiful. Third of all, I am becoming addicted to your fisheye lens. And Fourth of all, how do you have time to do all this amazing stuff with your family and still take all those beautiful pictures and keep up this blog? I can't even remember what I did last weekend. No quality time like this, I'll tell you that!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures.
