Little Man was thrilled and rushed into the house to find a container. Of course the first thing he found was one of my nice rubbermaids. GRR.
Hubs convinced him he probably shouldn't hold it. (2 points to hubs.) So he just studied it intently through the glass. His stacks of books and encyclopedias don't seem to satisify his insatiable appetite for knowledge when it comes to living creatures.
Pokey wanted nothing to do with this guy. She stood inside out of harms way and held up a sign that read "turantula" while Little Man tried to taunt her.
I understand that we live in the woods and that critters are part of the package, but must they be so close to my home?
I could write a book on the disturbing experiences I had as a child with wolf spiders that scarred me for life, but I'll spare you the details and just suffice it to say that I HATE them- ALL OF THEM!
And yes, the exterminator is scheduled. Phil is a busy guy and couldn't fit us in for a while. Seems to be many critters on the loose. I'm trying to be patient... And you may not see us outside until next Tuesday at noon. Just sayin.
Yet another critter to add to Little Man's ever growing collection...
But then again, BOYS WILL BE BOYS. **SIGH** Only another 8 years to go... heaven help me.
(Oh, and I stocked up on bug containers today. After hunting the world over they were found at the dollar store. Score.)
Let's get this party started. Shall we? Add your link below and then head over to...

See my other Wordless Wednesdays here. Can't wait to see what you come up with this week.
oy... i have three boys. i feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteThat's one nasty tarantula!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad my boy has not fully discovered bugs and critters yet. He is fascinated by them, but he doesn't want to touch. Yay.
Okay, that first picture...you really need to give a warning! :) That is just nasty!!
ReplyDeleteI can handle most of the stuff in your pics...just not spiders or snakes. ICK!
Happy Wednesday.
Ew. Now I'm gonna have nightmares. Thanks. Gosh, he looks all boy!!! Glad you found the bug containers - I also found 'em at michaels.
ReplyDeleteYikers! I hate spiders, and even the feel of their web creeps me out! He is a brave one! that is quite a critter collection he has going there. I "used" to a lot of collecting myself when I was a child.. and had fun with my boys... I would of freaked if I found a tarantula tho! and spiders like every other bug, love to eat ME! I am allergic too of course! Hope you are not getting moldy too! have a great week ( I just adore your beautiful photos!) Faythe @GrammyMousetails
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! I love this!! This is so my son too! (and he's only 4 so I still have 14 years to go......) I so agree - boys will be boys!
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of boys in our families who would love seeing a spider that huge! We also have lots of girls who would be screaming in terror too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for having us today.
Bets wishes for a great week,
Natasha, Stacey and Holly.
OH that needed a warning label LOL Blech!
ReplyDeletemy little Sugar would have been right beside him looking. She is a real adventurer, and I love that about her. :)
ReplyDeletehave a happy Wednesday!
I feel your pain. My son takes delight in picking up those creepy things and showing them to me. I had to tell him once that girls do not like spiders!
ReplyDeleteEwww why the spiders? And why are they so big, it makes my stomach hurt to look at your pictures lol. I was just like him as a kid... Actually I still am just like him.. I'll pick up any living thing except for scorpions, spiders, roaches... You know. The really disgusting stuff.
ReplyDeleteErg. That spider is TOO BIG to be roaming free.
ReplyDeleteYikes !!! I wouldn't want to be close to that...
ReplyDeleteEWWWWW!! I hate spiders and creepy crawly things!! Ick! And that sucker is big. It wigs me out just looking at the pictures (pulling feet up off the floor and into my chair)...
ReplyDeleteewwwkk!
ReplyDeleteof all the bug photos I've seen this week this is the only one that's made me want to scream! AAAARGH!!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW! Now I'm outta here ... LOL
What in the world is that???? OMG that is horrible!! LOL Nice pic, but I can't look at it too long. UGH... and right before I'm going to bed. Can you say "Nightmares!!" LOL Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Mom All Day
http://momallday.blogspot.com/
OH...MY...GOSH!!! I would have died! I was once bitten by a poisonous spider, have been deathly afraid ever since!! But despite the ewwww factor, love the collage, amazing memories & photos!! Happy WW! :-D
ReplyDeleteLove your photos I hate spiders any size!! Happy WW.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is quite a collection he has there! My 5 year old son seems completely enthralled with creepy crawlies lately. He brings them in the house to "play" with them...in his cars, on his books...I draw the line at sitting next to him at the dinner table. Boys indeed!
ReplyDeleteI've gotta tell you, out of all of your WW posts this is by far my favorite! Love the photos. Love that your son has an insatiable appetite for knowledge when it comes to living creatures. My son is the same way. He's forever spewing random facts about animals. lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and linking up Lish. It's been another busy, migraine-filled day here. Hope to be back in the saddle tomorrow. :) Have a good one.
Kristi, Live and Love...Out Loud
@TweetingMama

Okay, I thought my son was going to be the next Croc Hunter, but now I see your son might give him a run for his money :) Aren't boys great?! Looking forward to exploring your blog more.
ReplyDeleteit def wouldn't be a wordless wednesday with a huge tarantula on the post. :)
ReplyDeletei'm a bit slow on these linky thingy so i'll join when i get my head round to it.
~ash's mum
I DON'T UNDERSTAND BOYS.
ReplyDeleteHoly Crap!! I HATE spiders!! That thing is huge! I love the critter collection collage though!
ReplyDeleteholy k'moly! How big was that thing? Looks like little man could grow up to be an entomologist!
ReplyDeleteAaaaaaaaaaah - spiders!!! My boys would be right in there with him! Great pics.
ReplyDeleteEwww... that made my skin crawl! *shudder* Your little boy really loves his bugs. lol I have 3 girls and none of them are really into bugs. ;p Happy WW
ReplyDeleteNot good to look at right before bed time. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteUgh! That would give me nightmares. My son isn't old enough for that ...yet.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures.
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhhhhhh!! I am so with your daughter! I would be inside, away from the spider! I detest bugs, if they cross my path they will get squished. LOL! That's an awesome collage of all the creepy crawling things your son has found.
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
http://johnnjana.blogspot.com/2010/06/almost-wordless-wednesday-adorable-you.html
I don't like that thing :( I would probably try to move LOL if I found that anywhere near my house ;) We live pretty much in the woods too, but thankfully still didn't see any of those guys LOL Awesome pictures, and adorable kiddos!
ReplyDeleteI think if I saw that I'd never go outside again! Your lad looks like he's enjoying it though :)
ReplyDeleteOMG,great shots but hope i won't have nightmares tonight.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, my human was the same way with creatures as your son. And since she was a girl, she was considered kind of strange. Funny, I am a girl too, but since I'm a cat, my fascination for odd creatures is taken in stride.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots as always, Lish! But the first picture makes my skin crawls LOL. I haven't set up my entry. Off to dig for some pictures now :D
ReplyDeleteHey Alicia, wow, me and Josh are super impressed with little man's critter collection! I love that montage you put together - thanks for the heads-up on the wordless wednesday linky... I've linked up now :)
ReplyDeletexx
Yikes! That is one big mama spider!!! It's great your kids can check out so many creatures - and hope they are all treated well after being observed! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteWow, what a big spider. Your little man really loves all those spiders and bugs, ect. Life get´s never boring with kids. ;o)
ReplyDeleteThe collage you made is great!
I´m visting for the first time.
Have a happy day!
Verena
Creepy and yucky, but very cool! I love when kids love to capture and examine creepy crawlers up close. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteAs a boy I think they are cool to look at. As a man I know you have to respect all creatures of life. Spiders especially make me nervous. My granddaughter was just bitten by something. The Dr. thinks it was a spider.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo collage...my 7 yr old never brings gifts home from the woods. Maybe because I have him helping with chores in the Alpaca and Chicken barns.
ReplyDeletebeautiful montage but EEEKKK!!
ReplyDeleteoh boy...great photos but I'm not a fan of these creatures...
ReplyDeleteHope your day is good,
greetings from Casa!
BLOGitse
We live in the woods near the lake which means we get a bunch of yucks up at our place too. The Dudes are all over it, but I have a clinical strength fear of bugs. All bugs. So for me it's like a daily anxiety attack. Only thing in your photo collage I was remotely okay was the turtle. We have 2 turtles so I'm good with those!
ReplyDeleteEwwwww!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures though! I would of had a hard time with that and I'm really not scared of spiders! But we don't have MONSTERS like that up here!!! Have a great wednesday Alicia!
Alicia, I just noticed that I had sent you the wrong link. It´s the one from about two weeks ago. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteThat gave me the creep! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, please, don't tell me I have this to look forward to. Right now, we are still on lady bugs and beetles.
ReplyDeleteSpidey! Honestly this is the situation where my hubs would try to convince me that spiders are "good" because they "kill other bad things" -- but he seems to be MIA when I actually need to deal with one!!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I felt like I had to use the bathroom after that post! Very queasy!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI only have one thing to say to that....ew,ew,ew,ew,ew,ew,ew....oh yeah, ew. I get the creeps just looking at the photos. Maybe it is better I ended up with 5 girls and no boys?!?
ReplyDeleteOh, yes! Such a familiar scene. Love the collage of critter captures!!
ReplyDeleteOk that is one big creepy crawler.
ReplyDeleteOH my goodness! That thing is icky. But fantastic collage of the entomologist!
ReplyDeletethat is just gross but boys will DEFINITELY be boys for sure! i love all those pics with your bug boy...it definitely looks like he loves the outdoors!
ReplyDeletePlease...please tell me you don't live in NY state! I don't want to share a state with a spider that big! Oh my goodness, I have trouble with little house spiders!
ReplyDelete(I know, I'm a wuss.....it's an irrational fear.......)
Ewwwww!
ReplyDeleteMy boy just killed his very first spider last night and he's scared to death of them. Don't know what possessed him to conquer this fear, but he did it. Pretty proud of him because now I can quit killing them for him! ; )
ReplyDeleteWe have two toads that live under our hose box. I'm fine with them there, but don't like it when they hop around the yard as I'm trying to mow! ICK!
Oh my goodness! What a huge spider. We grow them big here in Florida too!
ReplyDeleteJocelyn
http://justalittlesouthernhospitality.blogspot.com
Ewwww... is all I am sayin'! Happy WW! :o)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness.... right now I am kinda glad I have 3 girls... at the moment all I have to deal with are the endless mud pies and other potions they decide to conjure up ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy WW.
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! that is all.
ReplyDeleteAw, yuk! My future times 2 (possibly more)! I live in the sticks too, but I sure am glad that I don't have more run ins with creatures of this size!!!
ReplyDeleteI have nothing , but boys in my house so creepy crawlers and gross things are on a daily schedule, lol.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your collage. It's awesome.
Creepy crawlies are kind of gross but those are some pretty spectacular pictures.
ReplyDeleteUm....the day I have 68 comments on a post is the day I pass out from shock! Holy man girl!! Also, I must say that spider is the most horrible thing I've ever seen!! AHHH!! I was not prepared for a buggy filled post:)
ReplyDeleteLove your fabulous photo collage ... nicely done!
ReplyDeleteUm, that thing is HUGE! I would be freaking out! And wow, your little dude sure does love creatures. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, yuck. Where I live... most bugs who appear to only walk actually have wings and can also jump!
ReplyDeleteOMG I'm freaked out just seeing that photo. We live in a very rural area as well, and I will never get used to the bug & spiders.
ReplyDeleteWow! I've never shuddered so much, opening up a blog post. Yikes. I'm in Florida and we have our critters, but nothing like that! Furry things are just skin-crawling!
ReplyDeleteOh. ick. Man, I have the big hairy wolf spiders here too. We also live in the woods. I've had the exterminator out several times already, but WOW at your son's critter collection!!
ReplyDeleteI hope this is not what my future holds. Luckily Scooby prefers to smoosh them and declare "Dead bug" instead. ;)
EWWWWWWWW... I would have died if I saw that thing at my house. You guys have collected quite the collection of critters!
ReplyDeleteI have goosebumps after seeing that thing. Ick. Just ick. I don't think I would ever grill again without full protective gear.
ReplyDeleteAHHHHH!!!! Not cool. I keep telling my husband that I really want a boy next but now I'm not so sure. I really hate spiders and bugs and snakes and... **sigh** ok, I admit, I'm a sissy. Between you and Krista, I've had my share of bug pictures. :P
ReplyDeletethat little guy would have ended up flat under neath my shoe!! Ewwww!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW
Would it be odd if I told you that the pictures in your post completely freak me out? LOL Happy Wordless Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting! I'ma new follower and 1st time participant. :)
ReplyDeleteOh just looking at that spider made me feel a little nervous! The joys of boys :)
ReplyDeleteThat is soooo my boy! Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteThose are great photos! I love the large collection of photos proving that, yes, Boys will be boys!
ReplyDeleteLittle boys are so awesome! Trust me, I had a hand in raising 4 of them! I think it's great that yours is so curious about the critters. And what a handsome young man!!!
ReplyDeleteFrom one bug-loving-boys-mother to another, just make sure he knows that if he ever gets bitten, DON'T PANIC! Panic increases blood flow to the heart, which in that kind of situation, is not good. I can't tell you how many times I told my boys this. Luckily they never got bit but you never know what can happen. My youngest son would pick up any kind of creature in a second!

ReplyDeleteyeah, very true. boys will be boys no matter what.
ReplyDeleteMariposa's WW!
Hello! I have an award waiting for you - come on over and get it!
ReplyDeleteSam
mom.undecided.
Any spider whether large or small is too close for comfort for me.
ReplyDeleteAll the other criters are so cool! LOVE all the pictures!
Holy cow - boys will be boys and now I understand why i only have girls. I would kill over if I had a son who brought any of his creatures home.
ReplyDeleteOMG I would die!!!
ReplyDeleteuntil when do they stop? Wonder what's he afraid of?
ReplyDeleteMy SIL just write on FB this morning that she has tarantulas climbing around her house. I feel like I can feel them climbing on me right now. Eewwww!
ReplyDeleteThanks.
@lonestarlifer
Paula
There is NOTHING about this post that I can handle and...can I just be really ignorant and say...I didn't know that tarantulas just lived in nature in North America!! I really didn't!!!....I would be moving...NOT KIDDING!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy WW is a capture of one of the "firsts" that babes experience in the first two years..cute :)
Just like my son. He would grab the first container he sees whenever he spots a spider or any other insect.
ReplyDeleteI played too. Mine are here and here.
I enjoyed your post. Great photos too.
ReplyDeleteYou look so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Wordless Wednesday.
Sorry I typed the wrong comment. What I mean is the photos are beautiful. Haha.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know about your linky party! And OMG! That spider gave me the heeby-jeebies! Totally scared of them and that one would have given me a heart attack!
ReplyDeleteThat is some crazy bugs. Is there a blog theme today that I don't know about? You are 4th blog I have been to today that has photo of creepy crawly things :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! Yup, boys will boys. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! Happy WW.
ReplyDeleteYou are officially my hero. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have the grace to photograph such a creature, especially so close!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, as soon as my kids spotted your spider, they took over the computer. Fifteen minutes later, after they'd admired every photo on your site, I finally got the computer back! They love the smiley-face breakfast and are quite puzzled by the watermelon-on-the-grill. Now I know where to go back and read! :D
I hate spiders, and this one looks SCAREY!! Your son is brave :)!
ReplyDeleteBTW, in which program do you do your collages? They are so pretty!!!
ReplyDeletecindytonyaguilar at mac dot com
I don't blame you on the exterminator one bit! My son was recently at my mom's and ran into a tarantula and came running to the house "Mom, Mom, that spider is chasing us on the 4-wheeler!" And they do in southern OK. Funny how are tarantulas look different- gonna have to look that one up- Ah, a project for the bored future 4th grader! LOL! ♥Mrs. Hart♥
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Word.
ReplyDeleteThree things:
#1 - THAT IS A BIG ASS SPIDER! HUGE!
#2 - He has your smile, definitely!
#3 - I love that you have a collection of all his creepy crawlers. I know it's early to say, but I'm looking forward to Jack exploring nature and having a collection of our own for his scrapbook. :)
Yikes!!! My boys would love that... me? not so much!
ReplyDeleteTHAT would completely freak me out!!! If I was there I'd be just like your daughter -- behind the doors. Your son has quite a collection of critters I see. Thankfully my boys have been satisfied with our parrot and don't have the opportunity to collect the more unusual pets in our part of the country! GREAT photos! You're forgiven for adding words!!! -- Dawn
ReplyDeleteYuck!! but that is soo my son (nd he's only 4... we have a LONG way to go).
ReplyDeleteLove the critter collage... I"m sure a lot are fun memories!! Wondering if I have pictures of my son's "finds"!!
Oh my god!!!! I can't believe that spider! I would DIE if that was near my house!!
ReplyDeleteHi!! Okay. First off I want to say that I'm new to your blog and I think it is amazing!! You are truly talented with the camera. All your pictures are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSecond, this is why I can never be the mommy of a boy! OMG! No way! Yikes! I can hardly handle the pictures!!!
I was inspired by your photos and perspective..and so went out and shot my own! Glad to find you in the blogging crowd and look forward to more. I can't wait to add photos as a way to compliment my OWN outlook on things in life!
ReplyDeleteew!!! I have a terrible spider phobia. :(
ReplyDeleteNormally this post would make my creepies crawl!
ReplyDeleteBUT today i like it, because I spent my morning watching a big spider spin a web on my glass door pane.
Haha, I was avoiding laundry, and his web was much more interesting anyway.
Wow, my son would be thrilled too.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome collection....I'm with you though...too close for comfort.
Happy WW :)
Wow, that is one big spider!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
I think I'm gonna be sick! I hate spiders with a passion, especially ugly ones!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW Following you.
I would die! My kids are afraid of all animals bugs etc thank goodness! I also have a bug guy who makes my life much better hahaha
ReplyDeleteOkay I just DON'T like spiders. In fact I respectively hate them. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI have a wolf spider story if you are interested in reading it. At least you'll get a good laugh at my expense. http://homesteadersheart.blogspot.com/2008/07/unwelcomed-visitor.html
Have a fabulous day!
Kim
Man that gave me the heebie jeebies!!!!! What a cutie he is!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. Wow, my little guy is still a toddler and doesn't really like bugs but I'm just waiting for the day he brings me my first "present."
ReplyDeleteaaaccckkkkkk... My heart is pounding. Can't stand spiders. Really hoping my son doesn't bring one of those creatures home. *shudders*
ReplyDeleteLooks like home! Both the boys AND the spiders. We've ad some gigantors this year.
ReplyDeleteSpiders are the one critter I would run from screaming like a girl. :) But look how proud your little man is! :)
ReplyDeleteWW: Dinosaur Store
oh my....have fun with all these comments!! what's up with REALLY SCARY spiders and your house?? i would die if i saw that thing.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely loved this post. I have two sons one of them is not into animals of any kind while the other seems more like your son. He is only 3 so we haven't got too adverturous...yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming to visit us at 3 sisters. Have a great rest of your week!!
From the 3 sisters 365,
Natasha, Stacey and Holly
Oh.my.sick. That thing is too big to not be scary. I'm actually doing a post on Friday about my fear of spiders so I've been feeling a little itchy scratchy for the past few days just thinking about it . . . and then I see this! And I have two boys are starting to get curious about these things. Heaven help me.
ReplyDeleteOh me I am not ready for my lil guy to be finding critters. He already loves worms and bugs. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteEwww!! I hate critters! I'm thinking God knew what he was doing when he gave me two girls! Ha!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, btw.
Holy ginormous spider, Batman! That thing is huge! Your little man is so brave. I would have run far, far away!
ReplyDeleteI had to comment when I got home, for some reason I can't always comment on blogs from work.
ReplyDeleteThat is one heck of a scary spider. I'm pretty sure I would have died at first sight!!
Oh.My.Stars.
ReplyDeleteYou are so brave to have taken photos...my heart probably would have stopped at the sight of that thing!!!!!!!
Thanks for the linky! I'll have to make a nature collage of my nephews!
ReplyDeleteI see a budding entomologist in the making, he indeed seems to fascinated with every thing which wiggles, wriggles, creeps, crawls or flies.
ReplyDeleteShudder! You need to give a girl a warning before throwing up pictures like that! Ewwwwwwwwwww.
ReplyDeleteYUCK (me screaming as I say it!)...ain't no way I'd want anything to do with that thing! I have to admit, I like the picture of him with the big bullfrog, though ;)
ReplyDeleteMy son would be so impressed with that array of critters! I'm impressed too, not only with what your son has caught but that you cataloged it all!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that collage!! That's AWESOME that you've photographed all these things that he's found and the collage is so very cute:)
ReplyDelete
