Today I'm mixin it up and throwin out apologies. I know you have a million other WWs to swing by, so I'll keep it brief.

1. Sorry for recycling photos. You may have seen some of my kiddo's pics on facebook. I love them. We played so hard it got dark before I snapped pics. But it is a beautiful reflection of their personalities.

2. Sorry for not making it to all of your linkups the last couple weeks. Single parenthood is kickin my butt. Luckily it's only temporary.

3. Sorry for being too wordy on WWs. I guest posted over at Dumb Mom and she referred to me as the gal that does the "Not So Wordless Wednesdays". And although I have called it that from time to time, my ultimate goal is to make it about my photos. I guess I have some work to do. I can't help myself. Just ask my hubs.

Please forgive me...

Today I was sitting at the doctor's office (not to worry- I'll be fine) when I looked up and noticed some words on their wall. It read, "Change your thoughts and you change your world."

What a profound statement. However, easier said than done...

This time of year is particularly difficult for me. November hits. Temps drop. Branches are bare. Skies are gray. Days are shorter. And I start frantically trying to get my nuts in order before winter hits. It is also the entire premise behind Project Smile. A reason to look for the smiles in my life rather than retreating into a ball or hibernating like a bear. It's no easy task when you live in Iowa or are me. I speak from years of experience.

But when I saw those bright yellow leaves on my way home from work today glistening in the sun my heart was filled with joy. And my face couldn't help but smile. Absolutely breathtaking. High 60s. Sunny. Doesn't get much better than this. Today was a rare gem. So, I soaked it all up. I know these moments are fleeting. But they are still there. We have to be open to them.

Oh, and one more thing. No comments are necessary. Just enjoy. Add your link. And happy WW! Hope you have a fabulous week. Don't forget to look for your smiles.

Thanks for stopping by. Let's get this party started. Shall we? Stop by some of my other bloggy friends... Kristi at Live and Love Out Loud, Amanda at Parenting For Dummies, and Susan & Janice at 5 minutes for mom.

P.S. Shibley Smiles put together a fab list of Wordless Wednesday hosts. If you want to hit all the hot spots, check it out.

And if you want to guest post for WW here at a beautiful mess, please email me at lish@mchsi.com. Thanks.

  1. Great shots, love the night shots, they came out amazing!! No need for apologies, I think we have all been there. A busy life, is a blessed life! I started WW a few years ago and I think mine have rarely been posted sans words. :-)

  5. I think I've been looking for the quote you read at the Drs. It's perfect to use with the group of students I have this year.
And...since you have music here and it's usually/mostly country...have you heard of High Valley? I got to see them last week...they're GREAT.

  10. How could I not comment? Your pictures are always so fabulous! I LOVE that first one. Oh, and your son's eyes? He's going to be such a heartbreaker!

I'm not living the single parent life and I am so far behind it isn't even funny. So don't apologize for not getting around to everyone...I know how it is for sure.

Thanks for the linky. Happy WW!

  11. The leaf pictures are simply gorgeous!

This is a difficult time of year for me to, thanks to deadlines and shorter daylight. Project Smile forces me to open my eyes just a little wider and try to find reasons to be happy instead of focusing so much on the stress.

    Thank you for that!

  12. Oh Lish, you're not the only one. I am just getting back to blogging again after being in funk for a while. It'll be better, you'll see.

    (((hugs)))

  13. That single solitary brown leaf...Wow!

PS--I recycle photos. I also use too many words sometimes when tehre whould be fewer and few when there should be more. And I never make it to all the links that are left on my Friday meme anymore. I hate it, but it's reality.

  14. I love the leaves! The weather finally got cooler here in Florida, but no fall leaves.

This is my first time stopping by...love it!

  15. Ack, not to comment. Impossible! Trust me, as a single mom, I know how hard it is to make it to everyone's WW and comment! Since I don't visit your FB page, I'm happy to see these beautiful photos.

As for being wordy, I don't mind it one bit. I love the explanation of the photos because I do exactly the same thing. Sometimes, most times, there's more than what the photo shows.

  16. These shots are wonderful! Don't worry about not being able to do it all! Sometimes life gets complicated and hard, no need to apologize for anything! I hope you have a wonderful week!

    Happy WW!

  18. Never apologize, esp w/beautiful photos like yours to enjoy! I would never know that any are recycled, and so what if they are? they are still pretty, and I do not get on FB to often, as I loose to much time... well , breathing! LOL! My posts have always been wordy, I tried a few w/o words, but it is just to hard to keep my mouth shut! I try to visit as many WW memes as I can too, it is just not possible, even when I come dragging in on a Sunday to post... I think it is still appreciated tho! I know I love comments on no matter how old a post! Hugs gal! Live goes on!

  19. I love, love what you do with the light in your photos - even the flash in the nighttime ones looks amazing.

I always struggle this time of year too - winter is so dark and cloudy and I miss the sun... I've got to learn to take better low-light/indoor photos because I miss taking decent pictures when we're inside so much.

  21. The kids look great, as always. And the photos of the leaves? Unbelievable! Oh and everything you mentioned above? I'm just as guilty. Hope you're hanging in there.
Thank you so much for your super thoughtful comment the other day. It really warmed my heart and made me smile. You've been a great friend and I really appreciate that. :) Sending hugs your way and hoping that the single parent stint will end sooner than later.

  28. Beautiful photos Alicia. I don't know what it is about this year but I can't seem to get enough of the leaves and colors of this fall. Your not-so-wordless is one of the reasons I keep coming back :) The quote is perfect. I'm trying hard to live it right now. Have a great day Alicia.

  29. Love this post. reminds me that we still need to let dustyn play in the leaves. I like your not so wordless wednesdays. I wish I had more to say on my blog.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Don't comment? But you have us so well trained!! I enjoyed these pix so much - gorgeous kids, gorgeous leaves. And on the "wordfuls," I say be yourself - one friend of mind will drop me notes that say, "It's called Wordless Wednesday for a reason, hint hint" and I do keep that in mind b/c I do enjoy the challenge of speaking through the picture but sometimes, since we all enjoy each other so much (and since in my case the pic doesn't always speak for itself) you just gotta throw some words in too! Thank you for that taste of fall (we get cool weather but no beautiful colors here in Tallahassee!)

  31. These photos are new to me and they are simply lovely. Take a moment to truly enjoy life before it "leaves" you and slips away. ;-)

  32. The shots of your kids are just gorgeous as they are.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I LOVE the shot of the single leaf! All your photos are stunning!

  34. Fall always makes you think about how fleeting things are, doesn't it? It's its own kind of beauty.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Fall colors are gorgeous and you know exactly how to capture them. Beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love rounded edges on your beautiful photos. Curves remind me to smile more. I have a cousin in Clarinda. Thanks for the Keith Urban song, love it.

    Cheers from California,

  38. How can I NOT comment on your gorgeous pictures? I have to say that I think my favorite one is the serious face your son has with his head sticking out of the leaves. I REALLY love that one.

  39. Alicia, the pictures are beautiful, as usual.

I so love Fall and all the beautiful colors.

  44. So there I was thinking about both you and Gigi and how you helped me so much when I first started blogging and how busy I've been and slack in getting to all the posts. So I dropped by to Gigi first and there you are as the guest post! Love the turkey hash idea, might work a treat here from Christmas. I'm not sure if you were receiving a feed from my blig but I flew solo in a url change which may not have been my smartest move. I'm now at http://kangaroosofthescrubbybush.blogspot.com Best wishes to you and your photography, as always is superb!
