It has become apparent to me that I need to recognize the individual stages of winter. Yes, I see 20 distinct stages. Perhaps this is merely my last ditch effort to stay sane until spring makes her debut, but all true nonetheless.
(Disclaimer: Not all photos were taken this year. They are a compilation of several winters here in Iowa, so some may be repeats for you. We are currently experiencing stage 17, the "gross limbo stage". That photo was just snapped this week.)
Stage 1: Magical
Stage 2: Fresh
Stage 3: Too Much Snow
Stage 4: The City is a Sandbox
Stage 5: Ice
Stage 6: Making the Most of It
Stage 7: Blizzards/Blowing Snow
Stage 8: Post Blizzard
Stage 9: Labor Intensive
Stage 10: Fort Building Snow
Stage 11: A Winter Wonderland
Stage 12: Too Cold for Anything but Ice Fishing
Stage 13: Cabin Fever
Stage 14: Perfect Snowman/Snowball Snow
Stage 15: Fun
Stage 16: Indian Summer
Stage 17: The Gross Limbo
Stage 18: Melting
Stage 19: More Snow
Stage 20: So Over It!
Mother Nature: Could you please send spring just a little early this year and help a girl out? I would be most appreciative!

ReplyDeleteSandy
your photos are magical Alicia. Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly make a case for the snowy life though it''''''s so beyond below cold. The ice is so stunning but treacherous. #11 is absolutely beautiful! What a wonderful jigsaw puzzle it would make :)
ReplyDeleteI love them! You are such a talented photographer! My fav's were Winter Wonderland, Too cold to do anything and Ready for it to be over!
ReplyDeleteTiffany
Awesome pictures! I must admit that some of the pictures makes me very happy that I do not have to deal with snow unless I go on vacation to see it.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures!!!! And I love your new header!
ReplyDeleteYou have some really cool pictures! I'd like to visit, but not live where you live! Sorry, but we were in the 70s today!
ReplyDeleteCrazy! Your pictures make MY winter look like a day at the beach. It's absolutely gorgeous, but I would not enjoy it for long.
ReplyDeleteI am SO glad winter does not last that long here! We only have snow for about 3-4 months and I am already over it.
ReplyDeleteOh I totally agree about those stages - I hit the 'So Over It' one a while back now. Even so, your photos (almost) make me appreciate the snow again, they're lovely!
ReplyDeleteI always like your pics!! Sorry to rub it in via my Wordless about the amazing weather we are having here in FL! Come for a visit and warm up!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos....that have sent me back in time to when I was a kidlet in upstate NY and all the snow fun I had!! But, gotta admit, I'm glad I'm not doing the non fun stuff in it now that I'm all grown up (well, most of the time ;>)! Great share, loved the progression! :>
ReplyDeleteThe gross limbo made for an interesting photo though, which makes it worth it, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteThey are such fabulous pics!

These pictures are absolutely gorgeous! I can't decide which I like best. Love the look on your daughter's face of the pic with the skis.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. Hope you all get some relief soon. I love your new header. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. I'm with your daughter and so over it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's fair to look that good while shoveling snow and sledding. ;)
ReplyDeleteYour header photo? There are no words....
Love the new header! Totally over the snow still threatening us for a few weeks though.
ReplyDeleteA bunch of wonderful photos as always! Love all the trees with snow and ice. Winter can be so pretty! I also love your last photo. Your daughter's expression is a real hoot! Happy Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteI loved your explanation of the 20 stages of winter. That was so creative, mama! Your pictures are lovely, repeats or not. I think I would die in -27 degree weather. CRAZY COLD!
ReplyDeleteMy sister keeps trying to convince me since I love snow I need to move to Iowa where she is instead of planning a move back to Washington State where our parents and other siblings are...there really are 20 stages of Winter there, aren't there? LOVED all the shots - perfect representations for sure! :)
ReplyDeleteWW: Waiting for Spring
I love your photos! They are so beautiful, but burrrr they make me cold.
ReplyDeleteSuch WONDERFUL Photos!!!! Love them!
ReplyDeleteThat looks about right, if memory serves me correctly. When we lived in New England (we're in Florida now) I remember when it went from magic and wonder to mud and labor. Haha. You did a great job of summarizing!
ReplyDeleteokay, i just love them all..
ReplyDeletebut lol, it totally shows that i know NOTHING about what is going on...
What is a Pak Shack?

It looks so cold but I love that you actually have enough snow to do something. We just get cold and wet. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I really like your work. I just used one of your photos (a sunset) in a blog post. It is at wwww.warrenbaldwin.blogspot.com Thanks for permission to use some of them.

I definitely fall into the "over it" category pretty quickly during the winter (even now when I don't really experience snow anymore). But I do like the beauty of the snow. I like the "magical" first photo and ice-covered branches the best.
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy too much snow! I think you need a nice vacation in Hawaii or somewhere else warm! Hoping for and early spring for you!
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous photos! I especially like the first one of you and the second one of the playhouse.
ReplyDeleteI now how you feel. We have here in Finland still two month for spring time. Winter is beautiful but it too long at least here. I was two weeks vacation in Spain so I had sunshine and saw colors, maybe I have now nerves to wait spring for two months.
ReplyDeleteOMG- that is a lot of snow. We live in one of the hottest places in the US & are thinking about moving to a place that gets about as much snow as your photos- they sure gave me a glimpse into what my life would be like :) I love that shot of the swingset
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. Snow always looks picturesque when it's new. Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteYep. I'm in the "so over it" stage. Luckily I *think* we're finished! *fingers crossed*
ReplyDeleteJust discovered you - came over via a link from Tonya at Letters for Lucas.
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos. We hardly get any snow, but I love how you've captured all these stages. So true!
Wonderful pictures!! I wish we had snow closer to where we live!
ReplyDeleteWow! Who knew there could be so many stages! O.o
ReplyDeleteOK, BRRR! I won't complain about our week of snow this year! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great series of photos! Love it!

holy crow. Stage 11. Gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeletelove these pics.
Crikey...doubt you'll ever get to read this comment as I am SO far down the list. Should have commented a whole lot earlier!!!!
ReplyDeleteBut I just wanted to say how BEE-UUUTI-FUL all that snow seems to someone who never really gets to experience a winter that's anything but rain and gale force winds. So I know you're VERY over it..but it is still stunning and breathtakingly beautiful to me.
And if you need some inspiration of what you can look forward to in the summer since we're still warm down under in NZ, you can check out my linky...way down in number 144 though!
Beautiful photos! Especially loved the tree ones with all the texture.
ReplyDeleteLove your photography and your blog!
ReplyDeleteFound your blog from your profile on one of MckMama's forum discussions. I live in MN, and I hate the snow from December 26th on. Has this winter been taking forever or what?
ReplyDeleteIt was kind of funny reading your post... I actually felt sick looking at the first few pictures of snow there, thinking of a whole winter ahead. LOL!
I think summer needs to come.
Great blog!
